Q1: How to upgrade Rotrics firmware?

In the past few weeks, we kept optimizing the firmware of Rotrics arm even after the first batch shipped. It means that the first batch doesn't come with the newest firmware, we need to upgrade it before start using Rotrics Arm.

We are sorry that the current version of Rotrics Studio doesn't support automatic firmware upgrade, we have to do that with third-party software.

Please follow the instruction below to upgrade your Rotrics Arm's firmware.

Windows System

1)Download Tera Term software and the newest version(V2.1.1) of the firmware.

2) Connect Rotrics Arm to your PC with USB-C cable

3) Launch Tera Term software, select Serial, choose the corresponding COM port, click OK

You can also click File -> New Connection to connect Rotrics arm

4) Send commandM2002 to start preparing mode, sendM2003to enter Boot Loader mode.

The software won't display the commands during inputting.

5) Send 5, check the hardware version, it should be V3.1 or V3.2, send 1 to enter firmware uploading mode

6) Click File - Transfer -> YMODEN -> Send, select the corresponding firmware and click Open

❗Warning: Make sure you've selected the corresponding firmware version, check your hardware version and select the correct firmware: if your hardware version is V3.1, select the Firmware_V2.1.1_For_Hardware_V3.1_20200518. The Firmware_V2.1.1_For_Hardware_V3.2_20200518 is for hardware version V3.2.

7) Wait for the firmware burning process finish

💡Tips: If fail(the progress bar disappear before 100%), send a to cancel burning and send 1 to re-enter firmware uploading mode and repeat steps 5) and 6).

If Tera Term prints Invalid Number and Start program execution show as below, please reboot the machine and repeat Step 5 and the rest.

8) Send 3, start the program of the newest firmware version.

9) Close Tera Term software, open Rotrics Studio to start using your Rotrics Arm.

Or follow the step-by-step instructions below:

1) Download the Serial 2 software and Rotrics Firmware

Click Try Free

2) Connect Rotrics Arm to your Mac with USB-C cable and power on

3) LaunchSerial 2, click USB to select Rotrics Arm and click Open

4) Send commandM2002to start preparing mode, sendM2003to enter Boot Loader mode.

💡Tips: The Serial 2 software will discount with Rotrics after sending M2003. We need to re-open the Serial 2 software.

5) Send 5, check the hardware version, it should be V3.1 or V3.2, send 1 to enter firmware uploading mode

💡Tips: After reconnecting, the screen will be blank, send 5 and it will show the hardware info.

6) Click File - Send File, select the corresponding firmware and click Send File

❗Warning: Make sure you've select the corresponding firmware version, check your hardware version and select the correct firmware: if your hardware version is V3.1, select the Firmware_V2.1.1_For_Hardware_V3.1_20200518. The Firmware_V2.1.1_For_Hardware_V3.2_20200518 is for hardware version V3.2.

7) Select YMODEM transfer protocol, click send and wait for the firmware burning process finish

Notice: Serial 2 won't show the successful message after burning. Under our test, it's 100% successful.

8) Send 3, start the program of the newest firmware version.

9) Close Serial 2 software, open Rotrics Studio to start using your Rotrics Arm.

Q2: How to upgrade the touchscreen firmware?

1) Download the newest version of touchscreen firmware.

2) Copy those files to replace the files in SD card.

3) Insert the SD card to your touchscreen, connect to Rotrics Arm and power on.

Wait for 30s-1min, the touchscreen will reboot after upgrading completed. Do not power off the touchscreen during upgrading!

After upgrading, click Settings -> About to make sure the firmware has been upgraded to V1.0.8.

Q3: The Arm got stuck during operation

If the robot arm got stuck during operation, you need to reset the encoder value with the following steps:

1. Adjust the arm to the following position, make sure Axis 1 and Axis 2 is in the maximum position:

2. Open Rotrics Studio and click Tools-> Serial Monitor, send the command M889. The robot will read and save this position.

3. Then send command M1112, the Arm will move to HOME position (X0 Y300 Z0).

4. Encoder value reset completed, you can move the arm smoothly now.
